2 Kingdoms

This presentation looks at the big picture of our salvation. The Four is a great introduction to the Good News and 2 Kingdoms makes a natural and helpful follow-up.

Here’s the presentation:

The Good News of the Bible is a Story of 2 Kingdoms—and a Rescuer King.

Jesus called the Apostle Paul with these words:

Acts 26:18

Open their eyes, so they may turn from darkness to light and from the authority of Satan to God. Then they will receive forgiveness of sins and an inheritance among those made holy by faith in me.

Clearly echoing this calling, Paul described the Good News like this:

Colossians 1:12-14

12 Give thanks to the Father who has qualified you to share in the inheritance of the holy ones in the light. 13 For he has rescued us from the authority of darkness and transferred us to the Kingdom of his beloved Son, 14 who purchased our freedom and forgave our sins.

There’s more to life than what meets the eye. Behind the scenes are two very different kingdoms—two realms of authority above every other power structure. Though these kingdoms are spiritual, they are nonetheless very real.

2 Corinthians 4:18

So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen, since what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.

The first is the kingdom of darkness. This kingdom is ruled by Satan and marked by sin and slavery. The second is God’s eternal Kingdom of Light, marked by forgiveness and freedom.

The bad news is that we are born into the kingdom of darkness—captives who can’t escape. The Good News is that there’s another Kingdom and a Rescuer King. God sent His One and Only Son into enemy-occupied territory to rescue us. Through His death on the cross and His resurrection to new life, Jesus has secured our freedom and forgiveness.

You don’t have to be a captive any longer. Jesus invites you to experience true freedom and full forgiveness by turning from your sin and trusting in Him.

Mark 1:15

“The time has come,” Jesus said. “The kingdom of God has come near. Repent and believe the good news!”

This is the Good News the Bible proclaims—and it’s still good news today!

What would stop you from turning from your sin and trusting in Jesus right now?

2 Kingdoms combines the New Testament emphasis on two essential parts of the Good News.

Acts 8:12 (NIV)

But when they believed Philip as he proclaimed the good news of the kingdom of God AND the name of Jesus Christ (emphasis added).

Acts 28:30-31 (NIV)

30 For two whole years Paul stayed there in his own rented house and welcomed all who came to see him. 31 He proclaimed the kingdom of God AND taught about the Lord Jesus Christ—with all boldness and without hindrance (emphasis added)!

  • Why is it essential that our sharing of the Good News includes both the Kingdom of God and the Lord Jesus Christ?

  • How does the Good News unite Jesus’ roles as both Savior (Rescuer) and Lord (King)?

The Good News is not merely about personal forgiveness, nor merely about allegiance to a King—but both.

Here’s the 2 Kingdoms presentation as a video.
